Tether Expands Digital Gold Access with Omnichain XAUt0 on TON Blockchain
Tether has launched XAUt0, a gold-backed stablecoin on The Open Network (TON) blockchain, marking a significant expansion of digital Gold accessibility across multiple blockchains. The new token leverages LayerZero’s Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, enabling seamless cross-chain transfers without the need for wrapped tokens or bridging protocols.
XAUt0 derives from Tether’s existing XAUt stablecoin, which represents physical gold held in Swiss vaults and currently boasts over $832 million in circulation on Ethereum. This MOVE capitalizes on growing institutional and retail demand for gold-linked digital assets while enhancing TON’s decentralized finance ecosystem.
The OFT standard represents a technological leap in blockchain interoperability, eliminating intermediary risks inherent in traditional bridge solutions. By deploying this infrastructure, Tether positions its commodity offerings for multi-chain adoption without compromising security or creating synthetic asset representations.
